Expressive language has to do with everything that is functional communication, being able to communicate your needs through language, sign language, gesture or other means. Many individuals on the autism spectrum have expressive language deficits. Knowing what skills need to be worked on and knowing how to work on them can be extremely beneficial.

The Jargon of the day is Receptive Language!  Understanding the concept of receptive language is key to making good progress in teaching any individual.  Many children with Autism have deficits in their receptive language skills, this can often be seen as being oppositional, uncaring or stubborn.  When we work on building receptive language skills we see progress in many areas.
